It was the Embassy Christmas party last night which anyone who's anyone in the ex-pat community had to attend, so I thought I'd go too. Roast turkey and all the trimmings, of course, sans pork sausages which was a shame - I could kill for some pig meat. Mulled wine and copious amounts of less sophisticated alcoholic beverages were imbibed - Budvar in my case - and a jolly good time was had. I've included a couple of the more acceptable pics below:
The top picture is of my boss and one of my fellow teachers; the other is of some teachers, and some people I've never met before, and have no idea why they're in the picture, but they're not unattractive, particularly the distinguished chap on the right.
There were lots of English teachers there, and there seems to be plenty of work available for when my current contract comes to an end. I was offered a job in Oman earlier this week on a vast salary with all accommodation costs covered, but I'll stay here for the time being - I don't want to dash all over the place, and end up feeling disatisfied with everywhere when I'm perfectly happy here.
I did try to have a conversation with the Ambassador's assistant, but he was so diplomatic I couldn't make it work. I don't think I could have a career in the Diplomatic Corps - I did go for an interview once, but failed when asked what I thought about the then Pope's imminent visit to Britain. I think the interviewer must have been a Catholic because my reply was less than temperate. That, of course, was back in the days when I was generally intemperate, unlike now.
