I'm glad you enjoyed my Camelthorn Papers and was interested in how you cam across a copy. Perhaps your student's father was a student of my husband at the university in Benghazi between 1965 and 1967. You should read Anthony Thwaite's Deserts of Hesperides. We both liked your blog. I have some thoughts about why your student walked out, however, it sounds like there needs to be a quiet resolution to the uprising.

I am glad that you are enjoying yourself and increasing your knowledge about the arabic culture! I am sorry I could not visit Libya as I got busy but will try in the future and get in touch when I arrive (if). I hope you enjoy the experience and the meditteranian sea, but you can get alchol there ask a few locals they will get you some!! Really enjoying the blog amigo - talk about an almost overnight life change! The regular updates make really interesting reading. Love all the pics as well, especially the one of your flat!(good luck in finding a new place!) Just read the Guardian link re passports/visas - bit of a bummer - might find you have to go and visit the Colonel himself to sort this out - diplomatic fellow that I know you to be. Hope you get a visit to the UK sorted - if you get the time it would be great to catch up. In the meantime keep knocking back the mint teas!

I would have thrown in a guess of 'topless service this way'. If words don't seem to have separate letters they don't seem to be words to me! I know this is my own ignorance, but I strongly feel I would not be able to learn a language in which I couldn't find even one recognisable letter!
